Overview
The present invention relates to a new, simple and portable colorimetric sensor for detection and quantification of the concentration of toxic industrial gases, volatile organic compounds and any other gases in ambient environment. Such system can provide an optimal way to notify and protect personnel against airborne chemical and biological hazards. This invention with more than one sensor device determines an environmental state and communicates information to a user. The system includes a solar cell as a light detector positioned and having a surface oriented to receive direct light coming through transparent or semi-transparent thin film of colorimetric indicator material. A light source is positioned before the colorimetric sensing material in the opposite direction from solar cell to provide illumination to the colorimetric indicator material.
